1. Season the Beef
Step 1
Place the ground beef in a large bowl. Add the salt, black pepper and garlic powder. Mix briefly until the seasoning is evenly distributed, taking care not to overwork the meat.
Big Mac Tacos combine the flavour of a classic smash burger with the crisp texture and convenience of a tortilla. Seasoned ground beef is pressed directly onto each tortilla and cooked in a hot pan, then topped with melted cheddar, shredded lettuce, pickles and homemade Big Mac sauce. Ready in approximately 30 minutes, these viral smash burger tacos are perfect for quick dinners and sharing.
Place the ground beef in a large bowl. Add the salt, black pepper and garlic powder. Mix briefly until the seasoning is evenly distributed, taking care not to overwork the meat.
Divide the seasoned beef into four equal portions. Shape each portion loosely into a ball.
Place one portion of beef in the centre of a tortilla. Use your fingertips to press it into a thin, even layer that reaches almost completely to the edges. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard in a small bowl. Add the chopped pickles, red onion, pickle juice, garlic powder and paprika. Stir until evenly combined.
Preheat a large non-stick or cast-iron frying pan over medium-high heat. Additional oil should not be necessary when using ground beef with enough fat.
Place one tortilla in the hot pan with the beef side facing down. Press it lightly with a wide spatula and cook for approximately 3–4 minutes, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
Slide the spatula completely underneath the tortilla and flip it in one controlled movement. Cook the tortilla side for approximately 1 minute.
Place one slice of cheddar over the cooked beef. Cover the pan and reduce the heat. Cook for 1–2 minutes, or until the cheese has completely melted.
Transfer the cooked taco to a serving plate. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining beef-covered tortillas.
Top the melted cheddar with shredded lettuce, sliced pickles and a small amount of finely chopped red onion.
Drizzle the homemade Big Mac sauce over the toppings. Avoid adding too much sauce, as it may quickly soften the tortilla.
Fold each tortilla in half to form a taco. Serve immediately while the beef and cheese are still hot.
